The Process

Click on the links below to read Julie Kierski's four steps to a great website.

Once you contact me for a quote, we will schedule a free consultation that can take place via email, over the phone or Skype, or in person. I'll find out your vision for the website and discuss your specific needs. And if you don't have a vision, that's ok too - we can come up with one together!

Once I know all the details and what services you need, I can give you an accurate estimate of price and turnaround time, and then we will move on to the design phase.

After we sign the contract, I will take any content you give me, such as logos, photos, and written content, and begin to create your website. If you need to have content created, I can do that for you, too. See "Services" above.

During this website design phase, I strive to make your vision a reality. I will work hard to create a site that you will be completely satisfied and happy with. After the website is completed, you will have the opportunity to review the website before it goes live.

After you approve the website, it will go live on your domain.

If you are unsure about how to buy a domain name or set up hosting for a website, don't worry! I can set everything up for you for a small, additional fee. If you want to set it all up by yourself but need recommendations for hosting, I'm happy to offer suggestions.

Maintenance
I can provide maintenance and updates to your website on an as-needed basis at an hourly rate.

Training
If I create a WordPress site for you, I can train you how to upload content and make changes yourself for an additional fee. I am patient and explain things at your pace. If you know how to use Microsoft Word, I'll be able to teach you how to update your site.

krē•āt beauty markets a high-end beauty product that has been seen on the red carpet and featured on television and in fashion magazines. Taylor Chang-Babaian, the founder, is a top celebrity make-up artist and well-versed in the beauty/fashion industry. She wanted a website that was sleek and stylish, as well as functional, and that would hold up to the industry's standards. She also needed an online store and a way to manage orders and inventories.

Some features of the website include an interactive product gallery, a store locator, a press gallery, and a shopping cart.

Taylor had a definite vision for the website, its layout, and its components; I took that vision and made it a reality. One of Taylor's creative ideas was to have the krē•āt beauty logo open like a door to the website. I created an animation using Adobe Flash to bring her idea to life.

"It was exciting to finally get my vision expedited so quickly and then cleaned up and taken to the next level by Julie... I have never had anyone execute what I had in mind so well and quickly." - Taylor Chang-Babaian

Sonia Hou designs and makes high-quality, handmade jewelry, and she needed a website to display and sell her jewelry pieces.

She had been using social networks such as Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest to show her work, but she decided a dedicated website was essential to solidifying her business' online presence.

She wanted a WordPress site so she could easily update it with new products and press releases. I created a customized WordPress site to match her business' logo and image; the e-commerce functionality also allows Sonia to track orders, manage her inventory, issue discount codes, and accept money and credit card payments through PayPal.

The website is well-organized and easy to navigate which is a must for potential customers. The simple black background fits well with Sonia's elegant design sensibility and, most importantly, allows her products to take center stage.

Frani wanted to update and revitalize her website that was created in 2007. Drawing inspiration from a flower graphic on her business cards, I came up with a look for her site that represented her. She gave me total creative control over her site, creating a color scheme, sourcing apporpriate photos, and designing the logos and graphics. I also guided her on what information to include on the website and copy edited the content.

Another important aspect of marketing her services, I assisted Frani in adding her business to online listings such as Google Places, Yahoo! Local, and Yelp. I also showed her how to update the information in the future.

The Center for Creative Growth is a non-profit counseling center located in the San Francisco Bay area. Their website was quite dated, so they wanted a major revamping of their online presence. I took their existing website and modernized it, giving the entire site a consistent look and organizing the pages with clear links and a navigational hierarchy that is easy to use. I also updated their logo.

The Center for Creative Growth took a very hands-on approach: our work together was a true collaboration. I provided Jason and Linda Saffer with mock-layouts of the website and redesigns of the logo. I took their feedback and ideas and tweaked the designs. We went back and forth in this process until they were completely satisfied. In regard to the photos used on the site and the animated banners, we worked together to pick images that represented the heart of the counseling center.

The website is appropriate for a counseling center with its calm and peaceful look. Jason and Linda were very pleased with the results and the logo especially, which "everyone who sees it agrees... [it] completely captures and conveys the spirit of [the] Center."

Custom Home Improvement 73, LCC is a family-owned business in North Carolina that provides painting and carpentry services. They wanted a website that could give potential clients a good idea of their services philosophy of business as well as show examples of their work in a photo gallery.

I designed their logo from a sketch they gave me, and they entrusted me with freedom to design the look and feel of the website. For this website, I filled multiple roles; I organized the website sections, wrote content, copy edited the content they gave me, edited the photos for their work portfolio, and sourced appropriate photos used in the site's design.

Facé of Face2Face Entertainment and Face2Face Productions wanted a simple, no-frills website to show the actors he represented and to show videos of his production work. The entertainment industry is fast-paced and people who work in the industry are always on the go. So Facé wanted a clean website that wasn't cluttered with distractions and unnecessary showy graphics.

He also needed to be able to manage the content himself so he could add photos of new actors and new video reels.

Facé basically gave me the written content and media files and trusted me to do a great job, but he did leave me with an idea that I was inspired by. He liked the time of twilight, its color and the idea that the stars, like the talent he represents, are on the brink of shining. I loved this idea of stars in the making and designed the background to reflect it.

The Face2Face website is a WordPress site so Facé can update videos, photos, and writing as he needs without my assistance.

Design Visions is a family owned business that has been designing and manufacturing jewelry accessories and charms since 1986.

Design Visions makes a huge amount and variety of products, and they needed a website that could display all their products to get orders from retailers. It was very important for them to be able to show high-resolution photos so potential retailers could get an accurate view of the products. I designed their website to have the links to view their collections prominently displayed. Clicking on the collection name brings browsers to photos that zoom in to show Design Visions' products in very high detail.

The look they were going for was vintage americana but still professional, and it needed to match their existing catalog. In the end, they were very satisfied with their new online presence.

"I am VERY happy to have you working on the DV web site! You are an extremely talented designer...Julie, it has been really a great journey watching you turn our new catalog into a wonderful web site." - Patrick Byrne of Design Visions

Testimonials

James Hall Salon

"Julie was all around great on completing my website. I highly recommend her. She was very thorough on everything. She also had great ideas... that helped out quite a lot. I get many compliments on the site."

Custom Home Improvement 73 LLC

"I would recommend Julie to anyone. She won't disappoint you in any way because she will not stop until you are satisfied with whatever you hire her for."

Center for Creative Growth

"We were struck by the way Julie captured the heart and spirit of our counseling center in her initial [website] design, and this remained true for all the work she subsequently did for us. We had Julie redesign our logo, which everyone who sees it agrees, is astoundingly beautiful and completely captures and conveys the spirit of our Center.

"Besides bringing her own creativity and inspiration to her design work, Julie demonstrated complete openness to our input and desires (she probably never had more “picky” and involved-in-the-process clients than us!) We worked with her to get every nuance of color virtually of every line of everything she designed for us to be exactly the way we wanted it.

"Julie worked with us with unflagging patience and openness as we went through this process in a redesign of our stationery, envelopes, and about ten fliers. What was wonderful was how, as we continued to work together, Julie was able to fully understand 'the look' we were going for.

"In addition, what made our work with Julie even more remarkable is that all this work and collaboration was conducted via e-mail and phone, since we are located in a different part of the country than she is. We highly recommend Julie and her work without reservation."

About Me

I am a freelance graphic and web designer with over five years experience creating websites for individuals, small businesses, and organizations. I have a BA in Studio Art from Allegheny College in Meadville, Pennsylvania. I like creating things, and I like helping people; creating websites allows me to do both.

I have worked with a range of clients, from garage door installers to creative professionals. I specialize in helping small businesses represent themselves with attractive, professional websites tailored to fit their needs. I pride myself on beautiful work, excellent service, and reasonable prices.

When I'm not making websites, I like to eat good food so I have energy to exercise at a CrossFit gym. I am an annual pass holder to America's national parks, and I'd really like to be a contestant on Wheel of Fortune one day. I like to think of myself as an ice cream connoisseur, I enjoy watching movies based on true stories, and my favorite Jane Austen novel is Persuasion.
