Dave and I honeymooned in Thailand 3 years ago. We traveled from Bangkok to Koh Samui (an island off the eastern coast of Thailand) and then to Koh Tao (a smaller island off the coast of Koh Samui).
We stayed in several really nice hotels, but our favorite “resort” was a humbler, more unassuming place in Tanote Bay (photo above). Our bungalow didn’t have the basic luxuries we’re used to (air conditioning, bath tub, shower stall, or even a bathroom door), but there was a hammock in which we would fall asleep to the sound of water. There was a diving school right next door owned by a German ex-pat. Unfortunately, we didn’t have enough time to complete the few days of training.
During our service, we’ll get several weeks of vacation time. I’m looking forward to going back to Tanote Bay, eating noodle soup, and getting certified to scuba dive!
