Three weeks ago, we swore in as Peace Corps Volunteers, and we moved from our training village to our permanent site. Our town is only a fifteen minute drive away from our training village. So we can fortunately visit our training family often. I was quite sad when we left and surprised at how used to each other we had become in only nine weeks.
Our training family are honest, hard-working, and generous people. Our father is an elementary school teacher. Our family grows and sells Cambodia potatoes called dom lohng mee. They also lend money and are in the process of growing mangoes to sell. They are light-hearted and were so patient with us!
At their house, there are a few cows, many chickens, and one turkey. The cows are gentle. Dave and the cows became friends because he would feed them banana peels. The lone turkey is very mean and does not like sharing the feed with the chickens. The turkey is ugly too. The roosters’ repeated crowing would wake me up in the morning like a snoozing alarm. It was very pleasant.

Hi!
Julie and David! This is your aunt Kyung in NJ.
Today, I’ve started visiting the site and reading your stories at Cambodia. I am very much proud of you and David. I will keep pray for your mission. I love the faces of cows. The farm life looks peaceful and not so far from God’s hands. Love, Aunt Kyung
